Get smart with your beauty routine

The intelligence of beauty

WORTH billions of dollars each year across the globe, the beauty industry is not going anywhere. In fact, as a freelance writer on this very subject, I continue to be staggered not just by the variety of products available, but the frequency at which new ones are launched into what is already a saturated market.
However, we continue to spend our hard earned cash on the latest, greatest and best beauty products to make sure we make the most of what we have, Whether we are all about anti ageing, getting rid of stretch marks or improving the texture of our hair, I guarantee there will be several shelves worth of beautifully packaged products to tempt us and make us feel a whole lot better about ourselves,
But in our increasingly busy world, do we actually have time to open several bottles twice a day and apply various lotions and potions? And more to the point are all these layers of product actually saving our skin or ruining it?
Leading dermatologists tend to agree that overloading our skin can be as damaging as not protecting it at all. Constantly piling on creams, serums, moisturisers, firmers and eye creams onto delicate skin can cause congestion and lead to the dreaded breakout of pimples.
So as we are all on a constant mission to rush between home, gym classes, school runs and work meetings surely we need some good all in one smart products that do everything we need but in one easy application.
Enter some of my favourite, clever beauty products that I know will work wonders for even the busiest skin, hair and nails.
The list of these smart all in ones continues to grow, and once just beloved by the well travelled who need to save packing space, they are fast becoming the beauty staples for time-strapped women everywhere.
Some of these products are basic and inexpensive while others hit the top price line, but one thing is for sure, they are all designed to save us time and as with most premium products, the most expensive ones last for ages because their concentrated formulas mean you only need to use a very small amount.

This is an aqueous gel which promises to soothe, restore and protect your skin. It is the ideal base layer treatment for all skin types and was created by one of the world’s leading plastic surgeons and a renowned biochemist who worked together to develop this advanced skin rescue formula. It retails at around £40.

This is an ultimate illuminating complex and at £80 is not a cheap option, however a pea sized amount twice a day will help restore tired skin. Use it once a week as a luxury intensive treatment mask as well.

Coconut oil
This miracle product is everywhere! It has hundreds of uses, not least as a basic body lotion, make up remover, anti frizz treatment for wayward locks and mixed with sugar it makes an amazing body scrub. Prices vary but it is not expensive.

Body Shop all in one BB cream
I love a BB cream and think it is possibly the best invention since Beauty Flash and Touché Éclat. This one from the Body Shop has pigment filled capsules which burst when applied to the skin and blend beautifully for a perfect match offering skin care and make up in one. And the best bit-it comes in at just £12.

Dr Bronners 18 in 1 pure Castile liquid soap
I was initially reluctant to use a soap as a toothpaste but having tried it out during a road trip to the South of France this year, I am hooked. Inexpensive, natural, retro and fascinating this is the ultimate smart product. Use it to wash hair, face, clothes, body and hands and use a small amount as a body lotion. It is brilliant and lasts for ages.
